New teams start with these sessions - unless you are already working odour! If your team is working odour, reach out to us before booking into Scent School Class. These session are blended classes where Intro to Nose Work + Intro to Odour teams, come and do their thing! We're trying a new structure - instead of running courses, we will be running an 'Introduction Hour'. These sessions will be individually taylored for each team. Session length will vary based on class size, but, will be between 30min and 60min. Our usual courses will each be broken down into 8 sessions, and teams can then seamlessly transition from an Intro to Nose Work to the Intro to Odour. Or stop at any point. If there is demand for an Intro Course over 3 weeks, we are more than happy to offer these! ⫸ FOCUS OF THESE SESSIONS: The FIRST 8 sessions will cover off the Introduction to Nose Work concept: ⇾ Introducing the "game" [hunting!]. We build foundational skills by having the dog search for their favourite reward [food or toy] while you learn how to read your dog, as they work. ⇾ We work to build a desire for this game, as dog's rediscover their natural hunting instincts! Growing your dog's motivation, confidence + independence are essential during this initial phase. The SECOND 8 sessions will cover: ⇾ Introducing your dog to searching for a target odour! We do this by allowing them search for their favourite reward, which is paired with target odour to build odour recognition. More puzzles. New target! Watch your dogs learn and grow as their use their hunting skills to find their new target. ⫸ THESE SESSIONS ARE BENEFICIAL FOR: ⇾ relationship building with your dog; ⇾ adding more enrichment into your dogs routine; ⇾ dogs that are environmentally sensitive; ⇾ reactive dogs who have limited options for activities; ⇾ dogs who may need a little hand building confidence + independence; + ⇾ most dogs! ⫸ HOW THESE SESSIONS RUN: These classes are run with 1 dog at a time, working. Each dog will have multiple searches. For this reason, we welcome sensitive + reactive dogs to our classes. ⫸ PRE-REQUISITES: A dog that can settle in car or crate [outside of the working room] ⫸ WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING: Please read the full description below!! ⫸ WHAT COMES AFTER THIS COURSE: Once your dog is confidently working Odour, teams can move to our regular Scent School classes. We continue to expose your dog to any remaining target odours, new scent problems and handler skills.
